It is my pleasure to congratulate to the Victorian Lebanese Community Council Inc (VLCC) on your 17th anniversary.
Victoria and Australia have a proud history of migration from Lebanon dating back to before Federation in 1901. Today, it is estimated that around 50,000 Victorians have Lebanese heritage with around 18,000 of Lebanese birth.
I am particularly pleased that so many, over half, of the Lebanese community in Victoria live in my electorate of Northern Metropolitan Region.
I am proud to represent such a multicultural and diverse part of our state with so many communities contributing their culture and values to make this such a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
As the grandson of migrants, who arrived in this part of Melbourne with nothing but a suitcase and built a life and family here, I appreciate the work that your organisation does to build a sense of community and to support each other.
Once again, I would like to thank and congratulate the VLCC on your outstanding contribution to Victoria over the past 17 years.
